چکیده

The occurrence o. a transfer of the methyl group of methionine to carbon atom 28 of the sterol skeleton was demonstrated in the case of ergosterol biosynthesis in yeast (1, 2). It seemed advisable to investigate another example of this new biological reaction, and the mold metabolite citrinin (Formula I), C&H1405, first described by Hetherington and Raistrick (3), was chosen for this investigation. Following the suggestions of Woodward (4) regarding the derivation of certain natural substances from polyacetic acids, the assumption was made that the skeleton of the citrinin molecule consists of a chain of 5 acetic acid molecules combined head-to-tail as presented in Formula II,

A major decomposition product, citrinin H2, from citrinin on heating with moisture.

Citrinin is one of the mycotoxins produced by Penicillium citrinum. We examined the decomposition products after heating citrinin in water at 140 degrees C and isolated a major product, citrinin H2 (3-(3,5-dihydroxy-2-methylphenyl)-2-formyloxy-butane). Citrinin H2 did not show significant cytotoxicity to HeLa cells up to a concentration of 200 microg/ml (% cytotoxicity: 39%) in 63 h of incubati...

An Investigation on Measurement Means of Citrinin Toxin Quantity by Toxigenic Aspergillus Species in Biomass, Using ELISA

Objective: Citrinin is a mycotoxin produced by several species of the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium and occurs mainly in food products and animal feed. Some scientific reports show a link between Citrinin and nephrotoxic and possibly a carcinogenic effect for humans. Methods: Samples collected by settling plates,in northern Iran and pure culture isolation performed till t...

Production of citrinin by Penicillium viridicatum on country-cured ham.

Seven strains of Penicillium viridicatum isolated from country-cured ham produced citrinin in potato dextrose broth and on country-cured ham. None of the strains produced detectable amounts of citrinin at 10 C. The optimal temperature range for citrinin production was 25 to 30 C.

The Occurrence, Properties and Significance of Citrinin Mycotoxin

Citrinin mycotoxin is a polyketide produced by several species of the genera Aspergillus, Penicillium and Monascus. Though A. niger is reported to be the highest producer of citrinin among the Aspergillus species, other citrinin producers of this genus include A. awentil, A. ostianus, A. fumigatus, A. niveus, A.awamori and A. parasiticus [1]. Some of the citrinin producing fungi are also able t...
